Katarina Witt first began to skate at the age 5 years. Her talents soon became evident as she enrolled to a special school for children with a talent to play sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. The coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Since then her elegance and grace captured the eye of all. Then she began dominating this particular sport. Olympic success at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's bronze medal in figure skating after an extremely close contest. In a more competitive competition, the following year, Witt took home the gold medal. She did not win the contest for free skating, however, she was awarded gold for her performances during the compulsory short and figure programme. Witt became the women's first repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating, following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was capable of returning to figure skating after her success as a movie actor. Witt competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Fans were amazed by her despite her having was seventh. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
